Avatars
Learn how the main avatar, Wardrobe, and video-call avatar shape an AI character's visual identity.
Updated July 25, 2026
An avatar is the main portrait of an AI character. It gives the character a consistent visual identity across ImagiPortal.
The first avatar is created automatically during character creation. It is based on the character description, appearance details, visual style, image model, and optional reference image.
Where is the main avatar used?
The main avatar appears in places such as:
- My Characters and the Arena
- The character profile
- Chats and calls
- Character media and image generation
- The Wardrobe
- The source for the video-call avatar
The main avatar should match the character's age, species, body, eyes, outfit, personality, and visual style.
Open the appearance tools
- Open My Characters.
- Select a private character that you created.
- Open Appearance.
The Visual Assets area contains three tabs:
| Tab | What it manages |
|---|---|
| Avatar | The main portrait shown around the app |
| World | The image of the character's setting |
| Video call | The face-focused avatar used in live video calls |
This chapter covers the Avatar and Video call tabs. See World for the world image.
Regenerate the main avatar
If the current portrait does not match your idea, update the written appearance first:
- Open Tools and Memory.
- Open the Character Editor.
- Update the Body, Eyes, or Outfit fields.
- Save the profile.
- Return to Appearance → Avatar.
- Select Regenerate Avatar.
ImagiPortal uses the updated character profile to create a new portrait. The generation screen shows its status, progress, and queue information. When generation finishes, the new image becomes the character's main avatar.
Avatar regeneration is a paid feature for regular users and is included with an active subscription. The app shows the current requirement before generation begins.
The regenerated image follows the character's visual style and your current image model setting. If the result is not right, improve the appearance description before generating again.
Change the outfit with Wardrobe
Wardrobe gives you more control when the character looks right but needs different clothes.
- Open the character and select Wardrobe.
- Search or browse clothing categories.
- Add clothing to the available try-on slots.
- Select Generate Try-On.
- Review the result.
- Apply it to make it the new main avatar, or discard it to keep the current avatar.
A Wardrobe try-on is a paid feature for regular users and is included with an active subscription. Applying or discarding a completed preview does not start another paid generation.
Applying an outfit changes the main avatar image. If the character's written outfit should also change, update the Outfit field in the Character Editor so future images use the same direction.
Create a video-call avatar
The video-call avatar is a separate, face-focused image used in live video calls. ImagiPortal creates it from the current main avatar by:
- Cropping closer to the face
- Placing the face clearly in the frame
- Adjusting the gaze toward the camera
- Keeping the same identity, hairstyle, eye color, clothing, background, and visual style
To create or refresh it:
- Open Appearance → Video call.
- Select Create Video Avatar or Regenerate Video Avatar.
- Wait for the generation to finish.
If you change the main avatar, regenerate the video-call avatar afterward so both images match. Changing the video-call avatar does not replace the main avatar.
Editing restrictions
Visual assets can be changed while the character is private.
- A character waiting for publication review cannot regenerate or apply visual assets.
- A public character cannot regenerate its avatar or video-call avatar.
- Unpublish a public character before changing its appearance.
Other users can view a public character's avatar, but they cannot replace it.
Tips for a consistent visual identity
- Keep the Body, Eyes, and Outfit fields clear and compatible with each other.
- Update the written profile before regenerating an image.
- Use the same visual direction across the avatar, world, and generated media.
- Check the avatar at both full size and card size.
- Refresh the video-call avatar after any major change to the main portrait.
