Edit AI Character Profile
Learn how to update an AI character's identity, personality, behavior, and world details.

The character created by ImagiPortal is a first draft. You can use the Character Editor to correct details, add depth, and guide how the character behaves.
Changes to the profile can affect text chats, roleplay, voice messages, calls, and generated media. They do not create a new character.
When can you edit a character?
You can edit a character that you created while it is private.
- A private character can be edited.
- A character that is waiting for publication review is read-only until the review is complete.
- A public character is read-only. Unpublish it before making changes.
Other users cannot edit your character's profile.
Open the Character Editor
- Open My Characters.
- Select a character that you created.
- Open Tools and Memory.
- Find Character Editor and select Open Editor.
The editor shows the current profile. Change the fields you want, then select Save Changes.
Basic identity

Gender and age are visible in the editor but cannot be changed by regular creators.
Background and personality
These fields explain who the character is and what guides their decisions:
- Occupation: The character's work, position, or role
- Background: Their history and important past experiences
- Personality: A general description of their character and temperament
- Personality traits: Short qualities such as patient, curious, proud, or playful
- Weaknesses and flaws: Limits and imperfections that make the character more believable
- Goals and motivations: What the character wants and why
- Skills and abilities: What the character knows or can do
- Hobbies and interests: Subjects and activities they enjoy
- Quirks: Small habits or unusual behaviors
- Allies and relationships: Important people and connections in the character's life
Use the Add and Remove controls for fields that contain a list.
Appearance
The text profile includes:
- Body
- Eyes
- Outfit
These descriptions help guide generated images and scenes. Keep them consistent with the visual identity you want.
The Character Editor displays the current avatar, but regular creators manage visual assets through the character's appearance tools. See Avatars for avatar and outfit options.
Speech and interaction
These fields guide how the character talks and how a new interaction begins:
- Speech: Tone, vocabulary, rhythm, accent, and other speaking habits
- Catchphrases: Words or expressions the character often uses
- First message: The opening message shown when an interaction begins
- Scenario: The situation or starting context for roleplay
For example, “speaks formally” gives broad direction. “Uses short, formal sentences, avoids slang, and asks one careful question at a time” gives the character clearer guidance.
The character's voice is managed separately from its speech style. The speech field controls how the character expresses itself; the selected voice controls how it sounds in voice messages and calls.
World and location
You can update:
- World description: The wider setting where the character exists
- Location: The character's usual or current place
These text fields guide conversations, roleplay, and image generation. The world image is managed separately. See World.
Preferences, boundaries, and tags
The editor can also contain preferences, boundaries, and tags.
- Preferences and boundaries help define what fits the character and what should be avoided.
- Tags are short labels that describe important themes or qualities.
Only add details that are relevant to the experience you want the character to provide.
Save and test your changes
Select Save Changes when you are finished. If nothing was changed, the editor will tell you that there is nothing to save.
After a meaningful update:
- Start a short chat or roleplay.
- Check whether the character uses the intended personality and speech style.
- Make another small correction if needed.
Changing the profile does not remove existing chats or the global memory shared between you and the character. The profile describes the character for every interaction; memory contains context learned from a particular user. Learn more in Chat and Memory.
For the clearest results, update one area at a time. This makes it easier to see which change affected the character's behavior.
