Public and Private AI Characters

Every AI character begins as a private character. Its creator can keep it private or submit it for publication in the Arena.

A character does not need to become public. Private and public characters support different goals.

Private characters

A private character is available only to its creator. It does not appear in the Arena or in public search results.

While a character is private, the creator can:

• Chat and roleplay with it
• Use voice and video calls
• Update its profile
• Regenerate its avatar, world, and video-call appearance
• Change outfits in Wardrobe
• Test its personality, speech, and memory
• Keep it as a personal AI companion

A private character does not earn royalties from other users because it is not publicly available.

Public characters

A public character has passed ImagiPortal's publication review and is available in the Arena.

Other users can:

• Find it through Arena search and filters
• View its public profile, creator, avatar, and world
• Start chats and roleplay
• Use available voice, call, and media features
• Add it to My Characters by interacting with it

Each user still has separate chats and a separate Global Memory with the public character. One user's conversations and personal memory are not shared with the creator or with other users.

Eligible interactions with a public character can earn royalties for its creator. Public characters can also be eligible for creator and marketplace features.

Private and public at a glance

Prepare a character for publication

Before submitting, check that:

• The profile clearly explains who the character is
• The personality, background, and speech style are consistent
• The avatar matches the written appearance
• The world description, location, and world image fit together
• The character has an active saved voice
• You have tested both chat and roleplay
• The content follows ImagiPortal's public content rules
• You have the right to use the character, images, and other creative material

An active voice is required before the character can be submitted. If no voice is saved, ImagiPortal directs you to Voice Studio first.

Submit a character for review

1. Open My Characters.
2. Select a private character that you created.
3. Open Marketplace.
4. Find the Publishing area.
5. Select Submit for Review.
6. Choose whether to request optional IP registration.
7. Confirm Submit for Review.

Submitting for publication is a paid feature for regular users and is included with an active subscription. The app shows the current requirement before submission. See Plans and Subscriptions for pricing and access information.

Submission does not make the character public immediately. It remains private while the ImagiPortal team reviews it.

Review statuses

The Publishing area shows both visibility and review status:

While a submission is pending, editing and visual regeneration are temporarily locked. This keeps the submitted version unchanged during review.

If the character is rejected, the Publishing area shows the review feedback. Update the private character, save the changes, and submit it for review again.

After approval

When the character is approved:

• Its visibility changes to Public
• It appears in the Arena
• Other users can begin interacting with it
• The creator receives a notification
• Eligible public activity can begin earning royalties
• Creator marketplace options become available

The published profile and visual assets are read-only for the creator. This prevents a reviewed public character from changing without another review.

Unpublish a character

The creator can remove a public character from the Arena:

1. Open the public character.
2. Open Marketplace.
3. Find the Publishing area.
4. Select Unpublish Character.
5. Confirm Remove from Arena.

Unpublishing takes effect immediately:

• The character is removed from the Arena
• Other users can no longer access it
• Any active marketplace listing is removed
• The character becomes private again
• The creator can edit and use it privately

Unpublishing does not delete the character. The creator can update it and submit it for review again later.

Unpublishing and deleting are different. Delete Character permanently removes the character and its associated chats and cannot be undone.

Marketplace visibility

A private character cannot be listed for sale. A public character can be listed when it meets the marketplace requirements.

If a listed character is unpublished, its active listing is removed automatically. Publishing and selling are separate choices: a character can be public without being listed for sale.

Optional IP registration

During publication, the creator can choose Register my character as Intellectual Property (IP). This is optional and is not required for Arena publication.

If approved for registration, the character is registered as an IP Asset on the DATA Network. The creator receives:

• A permanent public ownership record
• An ownership NFT assigned to their account
• Verifiable proof that can support future licensing

An eligible public character can also be registered later from its Marketplace area.

The IP record is permanent. Unpublishing the character does not remove a completed ownership record. Only request registration for an original character that you have the right to register.

Choose the right visibility

Keep a character private when it is personal, unfinished, or still being tested.

Submit it for publication when its identity, voice, visuals, world, and behavior are ready for other users. You can always keep it private, or unpublish it later and continue developing it.
