World

Define where an AI character lives and create the environmental backdrop used across interactions.

Updated July 25, 2026

A character's world is the setting around them. It can be an ordinary modern city, a fantasy kingdom, a distant planet, a private office, or any other environment that fits the character.

The world gives conversations and roleplay a consistent place, atmosphere, and set of rules. It also guides the background used in generated media.

World description, location, and scenario

These three profile fields have different purposes:

FieldWhat it describesExample
World descriptionThe broad setting, era, atmosphere, and important rulesA rain-soaked retro-future city where private companies control public services
LocationThe character's usual or current place inside that worldA detective office above a crowded night market
ScenarioThe situation happening at the start of a roleplayA client arrives with evidence that could expose the city council

The world description and location are used in both chat and roleplay context. The scenario gives roleplay a more specific starting point.

What is the world image?

The world image is a visual backdrop for the character's setting. The first world image is created automatically with the character.

It is generated from:

  • The world description
  • The location
  • The current scenario or situation
  • The character's visual style
  • Your current image model setting

The image focuses on the environment: landscape, architecture, weather, atmosphere, lighting, and composition. It does not include the character, people, crowds, faces, or silhouettes.

Where is the world image used?

The world image appears:

  • Behind the character profile
  • In the character's Visual Assets
  • As world context inside chats
  • On the final character creation screen
  • As a visual reference for the character's setting

In a group chat, each participant can have a separate world image.

Update the written world

Update the text before regenerating the image:

  1. Open My Characters.
  2. Select a private character that you created.
  3. Open Tools and Memory.
  4. Open the Character Editor.
  5. Update World Description, Location, or Scenario.
  6. Select Save Changes.

Changing the text updates the context used in conversations. It does not automatically change the existing world image.

Regenerate the world image

After saving the written setting:

  1. Open Appearance.
  2. Select the World tab.
  3. Review the current backdrop.
  4. Select Regenerate World.
  5. Wait for generation to finish.

The interface shows the generation status, progress, and queue information. When the new image is ready, it becomes the character's world backdrop.

World-image regeneration is a paid feature for regular users and is included with an active subscription. The app shows the current requirement before generation begins. See Plans and Subscriptions for current pricing and access information.

Editing restrictions

You can update the world while the character is private.

  • A character waiting for publication review cannot regenerate its world image.
  • A public character cannot regenerate its world image.
  • Unpublish a public character before changing its world or other visual assets.

Other users can see a public character's world, but they cannot replace it.

Write a useful world description

A good world description gives the character enough context without becoming difficult to follow.

Include details such as:

  • Time period or technology level
  • Culture and social rules
  • Important locations
  • Weather, lighting, and atmosphere
  • Magic, science, or other special rules
  • Risks, conflicts, or everyday conditions that affect the character

For example:

A quiet coastal town in the near future. Old stone streets sit beside clean solar buildings, fishing boats share the harbor with research vessels, and a permanent sea fog hides the abandoned lighthouse.

Keep the broad world, specific location, and current scenario consistent with each other. If the generated backdrop misses an important detail, make that detail clearer in the profile before regenerating.
