IP and Licensing
Learn how character IP registration, ownership proof, and future licensing work on ImagiPortal.

ImagiPortal lets creators request verifiable IP registration for eligible original characters while publishing or after a character is already public.
What IP registration provides
After an eligible character is approved, ImagiPortal registers it as an IP Asset on the DATA Network and assigns the ownership NFT to the creator's account.
The registered character receives:
- A permanent public IP record
- An ownership NFT assigned to the creator's account
- An IP badge on the character
- Links to view the ownership NFT and public IP record
Registration is optional. A character can still be submitted for publishing without requesting it, and its creator can register it later from Publishing & Marketplace after it becomes public.
How to register eligible character IP
For a private character:
- Finish the character and make sure its profile is ready for the Arena.
- Choose Publish Character.
- Select Register my character as Intellectual Property (IP).
- Submit the character for review.
- If the character is approved and eligible, its IP record and ownership NFT are created on the DATA Network.
For a character that is already public:
- Open the public character that you own.
- Go to Publishing & Marketplace.
- In the Intellectual Property (IP) section, choose Register IP.
- Review and confirm the permanent public registration.
- ImagiPortal will notify you when the ownership record and ownership NFT are ready.
The registration status and proof links appear in the character's Publishing and Marketplace information.
What registration does not mean
IP registration creates a verifiable product record of ownership. It does not:
- Confirm that uploaded material does not infringe third-party rights
- Automatically create commercial licence terms
- Transfer rights to another person
- Replace a separate licence or sale agreement
- Replace professional legal advice
Only register work you created or have the necessary rights to use.
Licensing
The DATA Network record makes registered character IP ready for future licensing workflows. A licence should clearly define what another party may use, where they may use it, whether the licence is exclusive, how long it lasts, and what payment or royalty terms apply.
Until a licensing workflow explicitly presents and records those terms, registration alone should not be treated as permission for another party to use the character.
Publishing, marketplace, and ownership
Publishing controls whether a character is visible in the Arena. The marketplace can transfer an eligible character to a new owner. These are separate from the permanent IP registration record.
The current marketplace cannot transfer a character when its DATA Network registration is queued, processing, or already completed. On-chain ownership synchronization is not available in the present marketplace flow. If you want to sell a transferable character, do not request IP registration for it first.
Unpublishing a character removes it from public Arena discovery, but it does not erase an IP record that has already been created on the DATA Network.
