Marketplace (Buy and Sell AI Characters)
Learn how owners list eligible public AI characters, how purchases work, and when ownership can be transferred.
Updated July 25, 2026
The character marketplace lets an owner offer an eligible public AI character for sale in PORTI. A successful purchase transfers the character to its new owner.
Publishing and selling are separate choices. A character can be public in the Arena without being listed for sale.
Before listing a character
To use the listing controls:
- You must be the current character owner
- The character must be public
- The character cannot already have an active listing
- IP registration must not be queued, processing, or completed for that character
A character that is being registered or is already registered on the DATA Network cannot currently be transferred through the marketplace. The present marketplace cannot synchronize an on-chain ownership change.
List a character for sale
- Open the public character you own.
- Open Publishing and Marketplace.
- Find the Marketplace section.
- Enter the asking price in PORTI.
- Select List for Sale.
The listing area shows its status, price, listing date, and listing ID when available. ImagiPortal sends a marketplace notification when the listing becomes active.
Manage a listing
While the listing is active, the owner can:
- Review the active listing details
- Select Remove Listing to stop offering the character for sale
To offer the character at a different price, remove the current listing and create a new one with the new PORTI price.
If you unpublish the character, its active marketplace listing is removed. The character returns to private use and is no longer available to other users.
Buy a listed character
When another user opens an active listing, they can see the asking price, seller, and their own PORTI balance.
To buy it:
- Make sure your balance covers the asking price.
- Select Buy with PORTI.
- Wait for the marketplace notification that confirms the transfer.
You cannot buy your own character. If your balance is too low, the listing shows how much more PORTI you need.
What happens after a purchase
After a successful purchase:
- The asking price is transferred from the buyer to the seller in PORTI
- The listing is marked as sold
- The buyer becomes the character's owner
- The character is added to the buyer's character list
- The seller is recorded in the character's previous-owner history
- Both buyer and seller receive marketplace notifications
The new owner receives control of the character record in ImagiPortal. A marketplace purchase does not create separate licensing terms beyond the transfer supported by the platform.
Marketplace and IP registration
The current marketplace does not support transferring characters with an IP registration that is pending or already completed. Decide which route fits your goal before registering the character:
- Use the marketplace if you want to offer the transferable character for sale.
- Use IP registration if you want a permanent public ownership record for eligible original character IP.
IP registration is permanent, while a marketplace listing can be updated or removed. Read IP and Licensing before choosing IP registration.
