First Chat, Voice Message, and Call

After choosing a public AI companion, begin with a short chat. You can add voice messages or move into a live call when you feel ready.

Start a new chat

1. Open the companion's profile.
2. Choose Start New Chat.
3. Select Chat or Roleplay.
4. Choose whether to use Global Memory.
5. Start the conversation.

Chat mode

Chat mode works like a normal messenger conversation. You and the companion send direct messages to each other, similar to texting in WhatsApp or another messaging app.

The messages focus on what each person says. They normally do not describe actions, movements, or the surrounding scene.

For example:

You: How was your day?

Companion: It was good. I spent most of it working on a new idea. How was yours?

Choose Chat mode for introductions, everyday conversation, questions, advice, or assistance.

Roleplay mode

Roleplay mode works like writing and acting inside a shared story. Messages can include direct speech, actions, expressions, and details about what is happening around the characters.

For example:

You: I open the old wooden door and look inside. Is anyone here?

Companion: She turns toward the sound and lowers her lantern. “I didn't expect anyone else to find this place.”

Choose Roleplay mode when you want to act as a character, explore a fictional world, or build a scene and story together.

The simple difference is:

• Chat — you exchange direct messages.
• Roleplay — you exchange dialogue, actions, and story details.

You can start another chat with a different mode at any time.

Choose how memory works

Global Memory helps an AI companion remember useful context from your previous interactions with it. This can include earlier text chats and voice calls.

The memory belongs to the relationship between one user and one companion:

• Your interactions with one companion build a shared Global Memory for you and that companion.
• A different user has a separate memory with the same public companion.
• Your memory with one companion is not automatically shared with another companion.

Global Memory does not simply copy every conversation into each new chat. ImagiPortal keeps useful details and brings back relevant context when it may help. This can include preferences, important facts, past events, or parts of an ongoing story.

For example, if you told a companion about an upcoming trip during a voice call, it may remember the trip in a later text chat. If you began a story in one chat, a new chat can continue with relevant details from that story.

Leave Global Memory on when you want the relationship, conversation, or story to continue over time.

Turn Global Memory off when you want a fresh start or a separate story. The new chat will not use the shared Global Memory, but this choice does not change the companion's personality or profile.

Send your first message

Write a short, natural message. For example:

• “Hi, how are you?”
• “Tell me something about your world.”
• “What should we do today?”
• “Let's begin a new adventure.”

The companion may need a moment to reply. You can rephrase your message if the reply is unclear.

Send a voice message

A voice message is a recorded message inside the chat. It is not a live call.

1. Find the microphone control in the chat.
2. Press and hold it to record.
3. Speak clearly.
4. Release the control to finish the recording.

The first time you record, your browser or device may ask for microphone access. Choose Allow if you want to use voice features.

Only allow microphone access on your own device. You can change microphone permission later in your browser or device settings.

Start a live call

A live call lets you speak with the companion in real time.

1. Open the companion's profile.
2. Choose Start Call.
3. Select an available voice or video call option.
4. Allow microphone access when asked.
5. Wait for the connection to finish.
6. Begin speaking when the call is ready.

A voice call uses live audio. A video call also shows the companion's visual avatar.

Use the call controls to mute your microphone or end the call. End the call normally before closing the page.

Trial, subscription, and PORTI

Voice and call access may depend on your onboarding trial, subscription, or PORTI balance. ImagiPortal shows the requirement before starting a paid action.

If something does not work

Try these steps:

1. Confirm that your internet connection is stable.
2. Check that microphone permission is allowed.
3. Make sure another app is not using the microphone.
4. Leave the call and try again once.
5. Refresh the app if the conversation does not load.
6. Check whether the feature requires trial, subscription, or PORTI access.
