Try-On and Dressing Room

Try clothing on your own photo or change an AI character's outfit in the Dressing Room.

Updated July 25, 2026

Try-On creates a new image that combines a person or AI character with selected clothing. You can use it with your own photo or open the Dressing Room for an AI character.

Try-On is a creative visual preview. It does not provide exact clothing measurements, sizing, or a guarantee of how an item will fit in real life.

Two ways to use Try-On

What you want to doWhere to start
Try clothing on your own photoGenerator → Image → Try Clothes on Your Photo
Try a new outfit on an AI characterCharacter profile → Wardrobe

Both workflows use the same clothing library and allow you to select up to two items for one generation.

Try clothing on your own photo

Use the personal-photo workflow when you want to appear in the result.

  1. Open the Generator.
  2. Select the Image area.
  3. Open the Generator workflow menu.
  4. Select Try Clothes on Your Photo.
  5. Upload or take a photo.
  6. Choose a clothing category.
  7. Select one or two clothing items.
  8. Select Generate Try-On.
  9. Review the generated result.
  10. Select Save or Discard.

On mobile, you can use Make Photo to open the camera or Upload Photo to choose an existing image.

Choose a useful personal photo

Use a clear photo containing one adult person.

For a better starting image:

  • Keep the person easy to see
  • Use a front-facing or slightly turned pose
  • Show the parts of the body where the clothing will appear
  • Use even lighting
  • Avoid loose objects or other people covering the body
  • Avoid heavy filters
  • Use an image file smaller than 10 MB

You can replace or remove the photo before generating. Use only a photo that you have the right to upload.

Read Information ImagiPortal Uses and Content Guidelines for more information.

Use the character Dressing Room

The character workflow uses the character's current avatar as the starting image.

  1. Open the AI character's main profile.
  2. Open Wardrobe.
  3. Choose a clothing category.
  4. Select one or two items.
  5. Select Generate Try-On.
  6. Review the generated appearance.
  7. Choose whether to save, apply, or discard it.

The character must have a saved avatar before Try-On can begin.

Which characters can use Wardrobe?

You can open Wardrobe for:

  • A private character that you created
  • A public character that you created
  • A public character created by someone else

What you can do with the result depends on ownership and publication status:

Character statusSave resultMake it the main avatar
Your private characterYesYes
Your character under reviewYesTemporarily locked
Your public characterYesLocked until you unpublish it
Another creator's public characterYes, for your own galleryNo

Wardrobe does not give you permission to edit another creator's public character. It only lets you create and save your own outfit image using that public character.

Read Public and Private AI Characters for more about editing restrictions.

Browse and select clothing

The Dressing Room groups clothing into categories such as dresses, jackets, pants, skirts, tops, footwear, costumes, swimwear, and accessories.

You can:

  • Switch between categories
  • Search by details such as name, color, style, texture, or clothing type
  • Open an item to see it at a larger size
  • Add an item to a Try-On slot
  • Remove an item from a slot

There are two Try-On slots. Select one item for a simple outfit change or two compatible items that can work together, such as a top and pants.

Selecting two items does not guarantee that they will combine perfectly. If the result feels crowded or inconsistent, try one item at a time.

While Try-On is generating

The app shows progress, queue position, and an estimated wait when that information is available.

When generation finishes, the Dressing Room reveals the new image and asks what you want to do next. The result is not applied to a character automatically.

Save, accept, or discard

The available actions have different effects:

ActionWhat happens
SaveKeeps the generated image in a gallery without changing the character's avatar
AcceptMakes the result the main avatar of a character you are allowed to edit
DiscardCloses the result without saving or applying it

Accept is not available for personal-photo Try-On or for a public character created by someone else. It is also disabled while your character is public or waiting for publication review.

If you only want to keep an outfit experiment, choose Save. Choose Accept only when you want the image to replace the editable character's current main avatar.

Find saved Try-On images

Personal-photo results that you save appear in the Generator's Clothes Tryon collection.

Character Try-On results that you save appear in Your Media Gallery on that character's main profile.

From a saved Try-On collection, available actions can include:

  • Open the result at a larger size
  • Download or share it
  • Use it as the starting point for a video
  • Delete it
  • Load older results

An accepted character outfit becomes the character's main avatar. It is managed as an avatar rather than as a saved outfit experiment.

Read Avatars for more about the character's main visual identity.

Improve the result

If the clothing or person does not look consistent:

  1. Start with a clearer photo or character avatar.
  2. Make sure the relevant parts of the body are visible.
  3. Try one clothing item instead of two.
  4. Choose items that visually work together.
  5. Avoid source images with complex poses or busy backgrounds.
  6. Generate another version.

Each generation creates a new interpretation, so pose, fabric details, body position, and background details can change.

Access and pricing

Try-On is a paid feature for regular users and is included with an active subscription. The app shows the current access requirement before generation.
